In his own words, Prodosh Das Gupta, through his sculptures, ‘tried to introduce… the Indian sense of rhythm in gliding forms and lines’. His quest for ‘instant expressionism’ can be seen in Genesis II. It is part of a series of works he completed in the last decade of his life, which communicate his ideology of instant sculpting, self-reflection, and deliberate intellectualisation. Genesis II is finely textured, its patina reflecting a physicality caused by infusing power and volume into its mass.
