The art schools in Madras and Lucknow were his alma-mater but it was in London and Paris that Prodosh Das Gupta discovered his métier as a sculptor, bringing back to India with him a language of modernism that was required for the medium to flourish. He aspired for a global aesthetic that was defined by neither history nor geography. This work, from his Egg Series, exemplifies mass and volume in sculpture, conserving a rare energy within, breaking away from any conventional language in the genre.
