Arup Das, a figurative painter and an acclaimed muralist, was comfortable with both, oil paints and watercolours. He portrayed humans as social and historical beings, placed within the framework of their cultural and natural environment. Here, Das paints an unidentified young woman who appears to be in a seemingly fantastical forest. The detailing in the painting is noteworthy—the winged dragonfly; a tiny bird observing the young lady; a young lotus flower; creepers; the woman’s attire, ornaments, all pictured beautifully.
