Christian iconography and themes have fascinated artists all over the world for generations. Several Indian modernists have replicated these themes, recreating it from their own imagination, relying on their visual vocabulary to create impressive works of art. In this Untitled painting, Arup Das pays homage to the rich imagery created by stained glass artists in some of the most iconic churches. There is, however, an innate Indianness in the painting with the artist painting other elements and, possibly, other human figures.
