Humans lay at the heart of Arup Das’s practice. However, he often brought in animals and birds to tell compelling narratives, of which, this exceptional work is a fine example. The human figure commands the other two figures, a beast and a bird, in this frame. The figures look in different directions but remain huddled together by fate. The shading in the background gives an impression of the human figure emerging with his companions from curtains on a stage.
