These sketches of a variety of rocks take off from an early series of Devraj Dakoji’s work, titled Stone, that is a homage to the rocky terrain of Hyderabad, where, despite the fast-paced development of the city as an IT hub, huge primordial rocks dot the cityscape, lending it a unique character. The gradations and differential shading on each specimen in the work is proof of the artist’s dexterity in handling the medium, and also of his acute observation of the generally nondescript geographical feature such as a rock.
