This is an early etching by Devraj Dakoji, who is a primarily a printmaker, and comes from around the time he completed his post-graduate studies in printmaking at the M. S. University, Baroda. Pranamu, or life force, is a concept at the core of his work, evident in this etching through vigorously undulating strokes—as if a dormant, lifeless line has responded to an infusion of energy with a sudden activity manifested through crests and troughs. The busy profusion of lines within each crest also attests to the all-pervading life force.
