Widely collected across the U.S., where Natvar Bhavsar went to study in the early 1960s (at Temple University, Philadelphia) and has lived ever since, he remains, above all, an Indian artist in New York. His genius lies in synthesising this dual identity through his colour field works executed in dry, organic pigments. MAYOORA II is a textured work where the blue alludes to a peacock (mayoor in Hindi), perhaps, with its tropical habitation hinted in the corners. However, the nebula has a universal appeal with its pacific, serene presence and doesn’t really need any geographic notation.
