Udaipur drew artists from the West to its lakeside palaces and islands and Charles W. Bartlett was no exception to the rule. His characteristic rendering of the walls bereft of any detailing served to individualise his style and his use of blues added distinction to his prints. This pavilion abutting Lake Pichola was a favourite of other artists too, but Bartlett seems to have settled on a mere segment of the scenery rather than the larger composition most other artists preferred.
