A British artist who trained at the Royal Academy in London and Academie Julain in Paris, settling eventually in Hawaii after a series of expeditions around the world, Charles W. Bartlett was a printmaker of eminence whose body of works on India from the early twentieth century is quite remarkable. This print of Silk Merchants creates a dreamy impressionistic scene in which men with bundles can be seen gathered around a tank. His use of the colour blue in the print is original and ingenuous.
