Ambadas’s paintings convey a sense of creative and aesthetic energy. His trajectory in art traced the same arc that he had begun, but his years in Norway brought some changes to his palette, moving from predominantly rich, earthy browns, ambers and reds to a lighter and more vibrant one of light blues and greys, and also white. Exhibiting his works extensively over the years in Norway and India, his imagery acquired a sophistication and assurance that reflected his deep enquiry into philosophical constructs, while never being ‘intellectual’ but, instead, an organic progression. Art critic Richard Bartholomew called his works an invocation of subterranean life, organic forms of the earth and underwater life.
