Watercolour, ink, graphite and charcoal on paper laid on paper
This charming vignette by A. A. Almelkar provides a glimpse, quite literally, of monkeys in the garden. An entire simian family seems to have made a fruit-bearing tree its temporary abode when, post-feeding, it seems to be relaxing as one monkey can be seen grooming a juvenile. Almelkar’s observant eye seems to have captured their agility of movement as well as their expressions—an aberration from painting his usual scenes of people and their lifestyles.
