A. A. Almelkar’s art was drawn from Indian heritage, ancient art, folklore, and mythology. The artist travelled to several important Indian sites, looking closely at temples and sculptural traditions, which fascinated him. He drew on these to make his artistic practice stronger. This Untitled work exemplifies Almelkar’s attention to detail wherein the two subjects, Krishna and Radha, are romancing in the verdant forest of Vrindavan. The artist fills the blank canvas—in this case, paper—with rich motifs, strong lines, and intricate details.
