Somnath Hore focussed on works that showed the dejection and suffering faced by common people. Hore’s figures, then, were mostly the powerless and helpless. With bold strokes and oscillating lines, Hore, in The Rogue Speared, deviates from this narrative to liberate the woman through her own power, inner strength, energy, and resolve, to protect herself against any harm. The work could be an episode from Greek mythology and conveys to us not just a narrative but also the artist’s fine draughtsmanship.
