The focus on the southern gateway in this, the only view of the Taj Mahal in Oriental Scenery, correctly identifies the famous monument as part of a much larger architectural complex; but it has the curious effect of pushing the tomb itself into the background. In 1801, the Daniells separately published two views of the Taj Mahal in an even larger format, as if to compensate.
