Teacher, painter, sculptor, D. P. Roy Chowdhury was among the most influential art administrators of twentieth century India and founding chairman of the national Lalit Kala Akademi. This Untitled painting depicts possibly a refugee camp, centred around a woman holding her child. Multiple figures are seen crowding a tent in the background propped up with poles. The work is distinct for its use of monochrome grey, relieved in places by a dull shade of yellow ochre, lending the painting a tone of melancholy and pathos.
