The Brihadishvara, or Rajrajeshvara, temple at Thanjavur, completed in 1010, is generally regarded as the finest achievement of the Chola era. The tower over the main sanctuary is over 200 feet high, but – unlike with other tall buildings – the Daniells have stuck to their horizontal format to convey also the great length of the temple.
