A remarkable artist who contributed to printmaking, modern art and Bengali literature, Gaganendranath Tagore gave vital inputs to Bengal Renaissance through his work. This Untitled watercolour, in all probability, was created for the fantasy fiction children’s story, Bhondor Bahadur, which he worked on in the style of Lewis Carroll. He addresses in the image, ‘Bhaya Bahadur’ and proceeds to talk about a kabristan (graveyard) behind the home of the person to whom this letter is addressed. Later on, Tagore talks about Hatibagan haunted by otters and civets.
