This Untitled work by Shuvaprasanna is characterised foremost by a ladder, a bunch of leaves perhaps strung together as a toran (door decoration), a drape kept carelessly, and a thread hanging from some place beyond the canvas. One assumes this still-life painting to be a scene from before or after an event, bearing an uncertainty around what may come next. This may well be a scene from Kolkata, which is a prominent theme in Shuvaprasanna’s work. The dark background with glimpses of light and the brightness of the objects represent an existential moment in the artist’s, or viewer’s, life.
