Primarily a landscape artist, Kisory Roy was considered one of the last great students to have trained under the master academic painter J. P. Gangooly. Known for the fidelity to academic painting conventions, Kisory Roy paints here his guru, mentor, resting in his chair. Perhaps, Gangooly was taking a brief break while teaching his students. Roy might have sketched it and later developed it in his own studio or his guru’s. The work shows a high degree of finesse and Roy’s success in handling various genres and mediums ably.
