V. B. Pathare studied painting under S. L. Haldankar at Bombay and Professor Martin Latuterburg at Bern. After studying portraiture under the renowned artist Sir Charles Dugdale in London, Pathare painted portraits of several national leaders over time. In this Untitled painting, however, we see Pathare’s command over the landscape genre and the luminosity that he achieves with watercolours. The scene in a lane of an unidentified town shows a row of sellers and customers while in another area, we see people relaxing on a charpai (string cot).
