Part of Cheringhee, Calcutta

Built of brick and stucco, these grand mansions were commissioned by the wealthier British residents of the expanding city of Calcutta. Running down the east side of the Esplanade, well to the south of the administrative quarter, Chowringhee was at this time considered comfortably on the edge of town.
