Folk cultures around the world revere snakes as a lethal adversary that is worshipped out of fear. The more courageous befriend the reptile, even turning them into entertainers, as is the case with snake charmers in India, or Morocco. In Playing with Serpent, reptiles and humans are shown in a natural world where other animals and birds are in consonance with each other, the harmony accentuated by the soft tone of the painting.
