Renowned as a sculptor, Dhruva Mistry works across mediums and this intense pen on paper work is evocative of his many sculptures that adorn public places in the UK, especially the Diagram of an Object installed at the Hunterian Art Gallery, Glasgow. Both of these works, incidentally, were done the same year. The work in consideration seems to be a maquette for his later sculptures the seeds of which are pretty discernible if one is familiar with the scope of the artist’s repertoire. In the background is a similar diagrammatic construction, a more rudimentary form of the full-bodied figure in the foreground.
