Kshitindranath Mazumdar dedicated his brush primarily to two subjects, the life of Chaitanya, and the Lila or the sport of Krishna. This work, titled Shri Chaitanya Meets his Mother After Sanyas, depicts the poignant meeting of Chaitanya and his mother Sachi Mata, after he took a vow of sanyas or ascetic renunciation of the world, before starting on his spiritual journey to Puri. The onlooker depicted is probably Advaita Prabhu, a guru of Chaitanya. The whole mood, emotion and treatment of the subject is one of sadness and despair.
