Having trained under the renowned court artist Abalall Rahiman, A. M. Mali worked at Chitrashala Press, Poona, which brought him acclaim and patronage. A contemporary of M. V. Dhurandhar and Raja Ravi Varma (Mali even worked with Ravi Varma for some time), Mali became recognised as a versatile artist, working in almost all genres, including still-life, portraits, landscapes and mythology. Proficient, especially in watercolour as this work bears out, Mali’s art clearly shows his passion to learn and imbibe the techniques of the artists who influenced him in his lifetime.
