This Untitled painting by Sudhir Ranjan Khastgir was done just a year after he took over as principal of College of Arts and Crafts, Lucknow University, following the death of Lalit Mohan Sen. Khastgir creates movement, an innate rhythm and an energy that’s depicted through the bold and strong lines to show the heady movements and the delicate mudras of the dancer. Though he trained in the style of the Bengal School, Khastgir’s art had its own aesthetic, its own deeply individualistic artistic language.
