A figure in a meditative stance, contemplative and quiet, engages us. Art critic Gayatri Sinha, speaking about Krishen Khanna’s art, once mentioned how his figures succeeded in having a ‘powerful psychological engagement’. In a warm colour palette, this figure, unlike other brooding ones, seems Buddha-like, showing a mature demeanour. The figure seems to be meditating underneath the shade of what seems like a tree. A closer look, however, makes us wonder if it is the infamous atomic mushroom cloud of Hiroshima against which the figure is depicted?
