Jitish Kallat looks at subjects of universal concerns that are, however, deep rooted in India. Humiliation Tax-II is a take on the rising fanaticism that we are witnessing, both nationally and internationally. Kallat had started the Humiliation Tax series as a response to the vulnerability of children, particularly those on the streets, who were bearing the brunt of our actions, our decisions. Text is vital in Kallat’s art and here, too, he writes the name of an Indian god that’s often used in sloganeering for high decibel jingoism.
