The thoughtful usage of colour and the decision-making in creating a vivid palette are often commented on when discussing Jaya Ganguly’s work. In this work from the Nineties, Ganguly’s use of colours in organic tones makes it stand out. The technique and the finesse with which the artist builds the canvas, layering it ever so gently with brushstrokes, gives this work tremendous depth and intensity. Fantastical, blurring the lines of the real and unreal, we find that the elements surrounding the figure are intriguing.
