Lotus, a symbol of mysticism, which is said to blossom and seed at the same time, expresses the principle of the simultaneity of cause and effect. The symbol of womb and embryo, we see it as a motif that often occurs in Jaya Ganguly’s paintings, including this Untitled work that also focuses on other distorted figures that appear as animals and humans, mystical creatures, all merging into one another. One almost imagines here a figure reclining on her bed with pets (a dog and a cat) for company.
