Living in Cholamandal Artists’ Village, C. Douglas was impacted by the art of K. Ramanujam who died tragically young due to depression. Ramanujam’s fantastical world and their conversations had a profound impact on Douglas who suddenly found his artistic journey enhanced further by the inputs of his contemporaries and mentors. Often revisiting the theme of sadness and suffering, trials and tribulations faced by human beings, Douglas paints scars, wounds, even gives hints of physical discomfort that we go through while on this difficult journey of life.
