Jagadish Chandra Dey, popularly known as Jagadish Dey, studied as well as taught at College of Art, Delhi. He began his career as a landscape artist and by the Eighties, he finally began to experiment with figures. The subjects of his paintings are often men and women, or couples, sometimes accompanied by peacocks, butterflies (as shown in Flight) to denote a communication between the subjects. The mystical, surrealist imagery in his art is often depicted by flying female figures, also depicted in Flight.
