One of the greatest exponents of abstract art in India—and a well-known muralist—Shanti Dave’s works are not for mere viewing but a total experience of journeying through the universe, walking along the path laid out by his brush. The protruding columns of this grey-yellow landscape appear like basaltic formations of the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, a result of volcanic activity millions of years ago. Like the abstract formations in nature, Dave’s columns too connect the present with a pre-historic time, alluding to a continuum upon which the universe and the very life-force are based.
