Watercolour, waterproof ink and adhesive on handmade paper
By the second half of the 1960s, Shanti Dave had weaned himself away from figuration to devote himself exclusively to abstraction. This Untitled painting belongs to that early period. The choice of a peach-pink overall tone denotes a softness that would be replaced with a stronger palette and discernible clues alluding to time as a witness to change in human history. Here, the amorphous floating forms emanating from one corner appear like a tuft of roots to anchor the wandering soul.
