Watercolour on handmade paper pasted on handmade paper
Amitava’s landscapes are lyrical in their minimalism yet monumental in the idea they communicate. Landscapes such as this Untitled watercolour hark back to his early years spent in pristine Simla, which he nostalgically remembered after shifting to New Delhi on a teaching stint at Jamia Millia Islamia University; this work comes from a later period of this nostalgia-driven exploration. The low-hanging clouds recall Simla whereas the harmony in which tall grasses, a pet dog and the protagonist stand in a field of yellow create the sensorial magic of nature of the renowned hill station.
