Amitava’s figures are creatures that have travelled far and wide and reached a stage where their gaze has turned inwards, to ask themselves questions about their journey, where they are headed, where have they come from. In this work, the female protagonist is suspended in a frame of her mind that places her in a domestic situation—the lived reality denoted by the motifs in blue, green, crimson and saffron, and a grey tree. Often compared to a doodle, Amitava’s work has the sophistication of conscious configuration and deliberate planning.
