Though he was educated in Santiniketan, Sankho Chaudhuri made a name for himself in Baroda both as a teacher and as a sculptor. He abdicated from realism to pursue a course in which abstraction was the ultimate goal, working in a variety of mediums, including wood, marble, plaster, cement, bronze and other metals. ‘It is the playfulness while exploring the possibilities of one given medium that fascinates me,’ he claimed. His iconic works are generally vertical forms that spiral upwards, as seen in this Untitled sculpture.
