Whether we view his sculptures or his paintings, a common factor that emerges in S. K. Bakre’s art is the strength of his lines, the spiky, jagged forms and the rich colour palette that immediately draws the viewer towards it. It was in the late 1950s and early ’60s that these serrated forms started emerging in his paintings and sculptures. The colours in his paintings, as seen in this Untitled work, were bright with reds, yellows, shades of blue, and black, and though abstract, claimed the footprints of form.
