'S. K. Bakre is a mature painter, full of confidence in his creative power. His work is modern and dynamic, full of impact and pungent colour. Influenced by European painting, he has evolved his own fierce, independent imagery firmly based on architectural and colour construction.’ These words by Courier Freeman perhaps best describe this work. Executed in a strong colour palette, it shows how Bakre’s preoccupation with abstraction was inspired by Paul Klee’s lyricism and Picasso’s de-structuring of form to communicate a rare vitality. published references
