Painted here is a still life by B. Vithal, giving us a glimpse of one of his earliest works. Having studied fine arts at Sir J. J. School of Art, Bombay, Vithal eventually came to be recognised as a sculptor who created monumental works. This work highlights Vithal’s quality of having a keen aesthetic and attention to detail, capturing the marigold flowers in different sizes. Most striking, however, is the shine of the vase, showing the masterful brushstrokes of the artist, his command on the visual vocabulary.
