Sailoz Mookherjea’s idyllic composition of a woman resting on a string cot under the shade of a leafy tree beside her thatched hut, the family buffalo nearby, could be a scene he might have chanced upon in the countryside or in a part of the city in which villages existed amidst urbanised settlements. As in many of his mature works, the scratched doodles add a distinctive character to the painting, the element also giving it a busy, textural quality.
