In a majority of Vasundhara Tewari Broota’s paintings, the female figure navigates through the surface and the space to make her own place. Mostly seen in the nude, the female protagonist stands for strength, focus and inner resolve as she breaks away from the dreariness and the socio-political and patriarchal domination that threaten her growth at every step. In a break from the figurative, this work shows us just the space with a sinister serpentine form, making us wonder if Broota’s protagonist preferred to leave the scene?
