L. N. Taskar was at his most evocative when building up narratives of life around him, in the manner of European artists who were enchanted by—while also creating the exotica of—India. With a gentle touch of applying the watercolour brushstrokes, Taskar showed a skilful use of light and shadows in his compositions. In this painting, the artist places a knife sharpening master with his tools, working diligently. A young girl looks on while another female figure, a young boy and two dogs frame the rest of the painting.
