This photograph depicts a view of the Taj Mahal, possibly from the top of the gateway. The original thick foliage, populated with fruit-laden trees like mango, shrubs, and flower beds have been replaced by a belt of coniferous trees. The history of the Taj gardens is as rich as the monument itself. Under Lord Curzon, Viceroy of India, together with A.E.P. Griessen, Superindendent to the Taj gardens, the gardens were re-made according to prevailing British taste. This view is much like the current view of the Taj Mahal from its gateway, without the occasional addition of some scaffolding every now and then for the maintenance of the structure.
