This charming drawing of an infant suckling at its mother’s breast is a subject rendered ad infinitum by artists around the world, yet manages to arrest our attention for the compassion with which Satish Sinha has imagined it. A master of realism, Sinha shows in this Untitled work a mother taking a break from her menial work to nurse her baby. She gazes wistfully into the distance—either wondering about the child’s future or surrendering to her own hopelessness. Either way, her protective arms around the child show her resolve to secure the child irrespective of circumstances.
