Memory plays a strong role in Gulammohammed Sheikh’s work, walking through complex layers of associations, moving back and forth in time and space. Influenced by memory, his work often becomes a response to the tumultuous events that the artist has experienced and been affected by. Riot, while conveying Sheikh’s strength as a printmaker, immediately evokes the horror and violence of communal riots. Politically charged, Sheikh conveys through this work, his strong stand as an artist who is unafraid of speaking up and projecting his thoughts on the political system
