An acclaimed artist, art historian and scholar, poet-writer and art teacher of legendary repute, Gulammohammed Sheikh is one of India’s most significant artists. The abiding appeal of Bhakti saint Kabir was invariably translated visually in Sheikh’s art. Meanderings shows the artist’s immense command and finesse in handling complex printmaking techniques. The field of view is obstructed by a host of near opaque blocks fragmenting the pictorial space into multiple self-contained vistas, allowing the viewer to engage at different points, in different scenes that come together eventually.
