Gopal Sanyal’s artistic practice mostly constituted of drawings, which he created with a lot of care and attention given to detailing. It’s not easy to find serenity in Sanyal’s work. Having said that, his art is produced from a state of anguish, reflective of the artist’s own experiences and his interactions with his contemporaries of Calcutta Group. He drew and painted animals to denote human suffering and this Untitled work, created in his trademark bold, strong lines, is an uneasy image but steeped in emotional strength.
