The powerlessness of the common people who suffered at the hands of those who were dominant and influential was a theme that A. Ramachandran often revisited in his art in the earlier part of his career, affected as he was by the plight of the refugees in West Bengal who kept coming from East Pakistan. This Untitled work reflects the socio-political struggles wherein the reins of everything rest in the hands of the rich and powerful. They have, quite literally, the strings to bully the ordinary, powerless, the needy as per their whims and desires.
